Not since 1956, when the hospital’s doors
first opened, has there been such an air of excitement at SSM Cardinal Glennon
Children’s Hospital.
We are approaching the opening of our new patient care wing and expanded
emergency and trauma
center in August, which will mark another milestone in the hospital’s quest to
become the country’s
most child- and family-friendly hospital.
The new wing will contain 48 private patient rooms and ambulatory care
facilities. Upon the
opening of those rooms, we will begin renovations to existing patient rooms and
convert them to
private configurations. By March 2004, every licensed bed in the hospital will
reside in a private room.
The hospital’s Board of Governors began positioning Cardinal Glennon for the
21st Century in
1996, when a series of construction projects began. The program included
construction of the
St. Louis Cord Blood Bank, Bob Costas Cancer Center, a stem cell transplant unit
and a beautiful new atrium entrance. All of these works
garnered national attention for the hospital.
None of these undertakings will bring as
much attention to Glennon as the new patient
care wing and the new Dan Dierdorf
Emergency and Trauma Center, which will be twice the size of the previous emergency room and contain the latest in
technology available
anywhere.

Meeting the unique needs of children and families is a continuous quest, which
we have been able to
follow only through the generosity of the thousands of friends of Cardinal
Glennon Children’s
Hospital. We thank you sincerely and promise to be worthy of your enduring
support.

Edward T. Hempstead
Treasurer
Board of Governors
